A self-taught digital artist, versatile photographer, weekend singer and documentary filmmaker, Phalguni Mookhopadhayay is the founder-chancellor of Brainware University, founder-chairman and managing director of Brainware Consultancy Private Limited and Webguru Infosystems Private Limited.
Born on February 28, 1955 at Uttarpara, Hooghly in West Bengal, he did his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur and graduated with honours in Economics from St Xavier's College, Kolkata.
He completed his masters in Economics from Calcutta University and MBA from IISWBM, before joining Hindustan Lever as a management trainee. He worked as a market planner for the ABP group for nearly a decade before striking out on his own and blazing a trail with Brainware, where he is a hands-on chancellor.
Vice Chancellor, Brainware University
"Professor (Dr.) Sankar Gangopadhyay, Ph. D. from the University of Calcutta, is presently the Vice Chancellor of Brainware University. He joined Brainware Group of Institutions Sabita Devi Education Trust in the Year 2012. Before this, he was associated with the University of Calcutta, Jadavpur University, Vidyasagar University and BESU (Presently known as IIEST) in connection with teaching and research for a period of nearly thirty-seven years. He has a number of publications in peer reviewed International Journals, as well as in international and national conference proceedings. He has also contributed research work in the form of book chapters published by eminent publishers. Till date, fourteen students have been awarded Ph.D. Degree under his supervision. He was a member of Doctoral Oral Defence Committee, Department of Electrical Engineering at Yuan Ze university, Taiwan from August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019. He is the reviewer of research papers of many international journals of repute. His research investigation comprises the use of optical fiber technology in the field of communication and various kinds of devices."
Pro Vice Chancellor-Academics, Brainware University
Professor Bhabatosh Chanda received B.E. in 1979 and PhD in 1988 from University of Calcutta.
His research interest includes Image and video Processing, Machine learning, Computer Vision and Mathematical Morphology. He has published 2 books, 7 edited volumes, more than 100 journal papers and more than 150 peer reviewed conference papers.
He has received `Young Scientist Medal' of Indian National Science Academy in 1989, `Computer Engineering Division Medal' of the Institution of Engineers (India) in 1998, 'Vikram Sarabhai Research Award’ in 2002 and IETE-Ram Lal Wadhwa Gold medal in 2007.
He is fellow of Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (FIETE), National Academy of Science, India (FNASc.), Indian National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), International Association of Pattern Recognition (FIAPR), and Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (FAAIA).
He was a professor in Computer and Communication Division in Indian Statistical Institute.
Pro Vice Chancellor-Finance, Brainware University
As a finance professional, have expertise of handling finance & accounts related activities and excelled as an academic administrator. In the initial years, served under West Bengal Audit & Accounts Services for few years, then switched to the University system. Served as an academic administrator in two Universities in West Bengal for almost thirty years, heading the Finance division, including Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
During the journey, obtained training & guidance through various specific progammes & courses, organized by Ed CIL, NIFM, NIEPA, NPIU etc. Attended and participated in few dozens of academic and administrative seminar and workshops during last thirty years. Acted as 'Resource person' in around one hundred Faculty Development Program/ Orientation Program/Refresher courses in many Universities in West Bengal, to train colleges & university teachers.
Executed the financial responsibilities and requirements of many high value projects successfully in Jadavpur University, including those funded by UGC, DST, AICTE and World bank, sanctioned through MHRD. As the head of finance in the university system for almost thirty years, the attributes developed for proper functioning under finance discipline include, financial management skills, Communication skills, Leadership, Analytical skills, technical expertise, Collaboration and teamwork, Risk management, Adaptability and flexibility, Integrity and transparency in work process of finance in the higher education system.
After superannuation in Jadavpur University in 2023, joined Brainware University as Pro-Vice Chancellor-Finance in January this year.

Mahua Pal, Registrar of Brainware University, a seasoned professional with over 29 years of comprehensive experience in Operations Management, Quality Management, HR, and Administration within the field of educational organizations. Demonstrating strong administrative and managerial capabilities, Mahua has excelled in planning and implementing new initiatives, contributing significantly to the growth of her organization. With a pleasing disposition, commitment, and flexibility, she has led teams through both prosperous and challenging times, gaining grounded insights into the educational industry.
In her current role as the Registrar at Brainware University, Mahua plays a pivotal role in maintaining the general discipline of the institution, representing the university in legal proceedings, overseeing the record-keeping of academic achievements, and liaising with government bodies.
Throughout her career, Mahua has consistently achieved subsequent promotions, highlighting her dedication and contribution to the organization. Her experience also extends to managing and launching new degree programmes, recruitment processes, and developing teaching models. With a background in MBA (HR) and B.Sc. Dr. Anant Kumar Srivastava joined Brainware University on April 1, 2023, and currently serves as professor and Dean of Academics. With over 24 years of experience in academic administration and institutional development, he has held prestigious roles such as member of the Governing Board, Principal, Director and Dean at esteemed institutions in Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR). Dr. Anant also serves as a special invitee on the Board of Studies at Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow.
Awarded a Ph.D. in management from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra Ranchi, in 2011, Dr. Anant specialises in operations, digital transformation and information system management. He is notably recognised for coining the term "Fearonomics", which is included in the American Association for the Advancement of Science database. He has authored two books and developed a range of study materials and courses. His contributions extend to accreditation, training, and industry collaboration. He excels in curriculum design and learning needs assessment and is well-versed in instructional design models, including ADDIE, Merrill’s Principles, Bloom’s Taxonomy and Gagne’s learning theory.
Director-Research & Projects, Brainware University
Dr. Deepshikha Datta, Director Research & Projects of Brainware University and Chairperson of the Center for Multidisciplinary Research & Innovations, is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of research and academic experience. She has previously served as the Head of the Department of Polymer Science in Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, and as Research Nucleus member cum IQAC Coordinator at GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam.
Dr. Datta completed her masters and doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Durgapur. Her areas of expertise include the production of biopolymers, refining of petrochemicals, fabrication of fiber-reinforced products from agrowaste, utilization of biowaste to develop value-added products, and the fabrication of nanomaterials such as nanosilica, nanocellulose, and nanochitosan. She also works on polymer grafting and membrane fabrication.
She has published more than 37 articles in SCI/SCOPUS journals and has been the Principal Investigator for a SERB-POWER Grant titled “Development of Bio-packaging film by the dispersion of potato peel starch and waste rice husk ash into recycled polymer matrix”. She is the mentor of a project titled, “Development of high strength and durable automobile dashboard by the dispersion of jute fibre into polyester resin reinforced with egg shell filler” sanctioned Project under MSME. Dr. Datta has contributed to various other funded projects, including those by DST West Bengal like “Grafting of Fire Retardant Polymer on Rice (Oryza Sativa) Straw for Enhancing the Durability of Hay-roofed houses in the poor people dominated backward rural reas”, “Dispersion of Modified Starch onto Polymer Matrix towards Enhancement of its Biodegradability to reduce the Solid Waste Generation”. She has presented approximately 130 Conference papers and contributed to 13 Book chapters on topics such as functionalized membranes, marine waste utilization, sustainable packaging materials development, and biodiesel production. Additionally, she is the Vice President of IIC BWU and holds three patents and has received numerous awards for Best papers at International Conferences. Dr. Datta is also a reviewer and editor for various SCI/SCOPUS-indexed journals.
Controller of Examinations, Brainware University
Dr. Swaraj Kumar Sarkar joined Brainware University on 06/07/2022 as Controller of Examinations. He completed his Ph.D. in the field of Zoology from Vidyasagar University in the 2013. His area of research interest is anatomy and ultrastructure of fish olfactory system under high resolution electron microscopes. He published more than 25 research articles in national and international journals. He is a member of Microscopical Society of America, USA and European Chemoreception Research Organization (ECRO). In the year 2012, he was awarded with the very prestigious ‘Sudeb Bhusan Young Scientist Award’ from Zoological Society of Calcutta, University of Calcutta for his contribution in the field of neurogenesis of olfactory sensory neuron. Apart from his academic and teaching experiences, he served as Assistant Controller of Examinations, Directorate of Distance Education, Vidyasagar University. He also served as a Member (Working Committee) of UGC-NSQF Programme, National Academic Depository (NAD)/ Digi-Locker Committee of Vidyasagar University. Dr. Sarkar acted as external member of various confidential committee of other state aided university of West Bengal. On the basis of his administrative experiences, he published articles on emerging area of ICT based examination reforms like implementation of Blooms Taxonomy, digital evaluation system, etc. His vision is to conduct the examinations with utmost precision and fairness as well as publish the results within minimum time frame. He is committed to enhance transparency, objectivity and efficiency in academic administration, particularly concerning assessments at Brainware University.
Finance Officer, Brainware University
Mr. Abir Saha is a seasoned finance professional with more than 18 years of experience in auditing and accounting. He is currently serving as the Finance Officer at Brainware University. Earlier, he has worked as the Senior Manager in the Education Division of Brainware Consultancy Pvt. Ltd. in Kolkata, West Bengal. He has been associated with this organisation since 2004. With a robust background in overseeing financial operations and ensuring compliance with organisational policies, his expertise spans across various critical functions.
In his role, Abir manages a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, including the meticulous handling of franchisee accounts, invoicing, and settlement of franchisee shares. He is instrumental in formulating comprehensive budgets for the organisation, playing a pivotal role in financial planning and control. Furthermore, Abir conducts thorough pre-audits of purchase orders and vendor bills, ensuring adherence to established protocols and financial policies.
His proficiency extends to conducting salary audits and managing the full and final settlement processes for departing staff members, thereby maintaining transparency and efficiency in payroll operations. Abir is recognised for his adeptness in assessing the financial health of the company in a timely manner and presenting detailed audit reports to the management on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Moreover, Abir actively contributes to the strategic direction of the company by overseeing various projects and providing comprehensive status reports. He collaborates closely with the ERP team, contributing significantly to the implementation of ERP packages across different departments of the organisation.
Abir Saha's career is marked by his dedication towards enhancing organisational growth through meticulous financial oversight, strategic project management, and effective implementation of audit and accounting practices. His expertise in project evaluation, monitoring, budgeting, costing, financial reporting and assurance has been integral to the continuous growth and success of Brainware Group of Institutions and eventually Brainware University. Mr. Abir Saha joined Brainware University since its inception as Finance Officer. He completed MBA in Finance from “West Bengal University of Technology” also completed M.Com from Calcutta University.
